Michael Pinnella (* 29. August 1969 in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey , USA ), the American keyboardist of the progressive metal band Symphony X .

Michael began to learn to play the piano at a young age. Back then he was particularly fascinated by great classical and baroque composers such as Bach and Mozart . Later, during his piano studies, he began to occupy himself more with keyboards and synthesizers. Musically he was influenced at this time by Deep Purple , ELP , Kansas and Dio , and especially by Yngwie Malmsteen , whose way of combining baroque sounds with heavy metal impressed him; it was his two favorite styles of music that were merged here.

The strong influence of classical music can be heard - just like with his bandmate, the guitarist Michael Romeo - in Pinnella's keyboard playing on Symphony X. In 2004 he recorded his first solo album. The CD with the title Enter By The Twelfth Gate contains only instrumental titles that make its classical influences particularly noticeable; the music differs significantly from the progressive and symphonic metal of his main band.
