Michael Torke
Michael Torke (born September 22, 1961 , Milwaukee , USA ) is an American composer , primarily for orchestral music .
Torke, who learned piano and bassoon in his childhood and youth , wrote his first compositions for his local youth orchestra at an early age. He studied piano and composition at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester (New York) . After graduating, he began graduate studies at Yale University in New Haven, which he soon dropped out to work as a professional musician in New York.
His best-known work is "Javelin" (in German: Speer), composed in 1994, which was part of the official album "Summon The Heroes" of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. He is known as a representative of post-minimalism .
In 2003 Michael Torke founded Ecstatic Music, his own record label. He has since childhood frühester a perfect pitch and has a tone-color synesthesia .
