Michael Weidemann

Michael Weidemann (born December 1, 1958 in Hamburg ) is a German radio journalist.

Life

Weidemann has been working for Norddeutscher Rundfunk since 1990, initially as a freelancer, and since 1992 as a permanent employee. After a first position at the local program Hamburg-Welle (today: NDR 90,3) he became editor of the business editorial office at NDR 4 (today: NDR Info) in 1992 and switched to the editorial office for politics and news in 1993.

In 1998 he became ARD correspondent for South Asia based in New Delhi. Until 2003 he reported from trips, u. a, to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and within India. During the rule of the Taliban he was one of the few Western journalists to visit Afghanistan in December 1998 and May 2000. After the Taliban was provisionally expelled, Weidemann reported from Kabul from November 2001 to May 2003 about attempts to rebuild Afghanistan democratically .

During the nuclear crisis between India and Pakistan in the summer of 2002, Weidemann switched between Islamabad and New Delhi in order to be able to provide first-hand information about the tense atmosphere in both countries. He also sent reports from the region about the Sri Lankan civil war.

After a short interlude in the Hamburg home editorial office, Michael Weidemann moved to the ARD studio in Berlin in 2005, from where he reported primarily on financial policy, the economy and the Left Party for the NDR and other public broadcasters. From 2010 to 2013 Weidemann worked as a business editor at NDR Info in Hamburg. Since then he has been reporting on state political issues from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein for the same program.
