Michael Wempner

Michael Wempner (born September 24, 1962 in Flensburg ) is a German playwright in the fields of drama, musicals and comedy.

Career

The trained sculptor began his theater career in 1974 at the Low German Stage of the city of Flensburg. Since 1999 he has written musicals, plays, and Low German and High German comedies. His best-known pieces include "Champagne for Breakfast" and "The Sorcerer's Apprentice". In 2010 he founded the “Broschmann & Finke Theater Company” theater in Flensburg and in the same year received the child-friendliness award of the city of Flensburg for his achievements in the field of children's theater. In 2014 Wempner was awarded the 1st Konrad Hansen Theater Prize by the Low German Theater Association of Schleswig-Holstein for the Low German social comedy "Tiet to leven". In 2016, Wempner turned to musicals. The result was the music theater piece “WaschBar”, a scene piece that takes place in the red light district. In 2019 "Rock my soul" followed, a musical about the rise and end of the Les Humphries Singers .
