Michael von Rekowski (born December 19, 1963 in Wipperfürth ) is a German politician ( independent ) and has been the mayor of the Hanseatic city of Wipperfürth since October 21, 2009 .

education and profession

After high school at Engelbert von Berg Gymnasium in Wipperfürth he did his community service. He completed his training as a nurse at the Evangelical Hospital in Bergisch Gladbach , followed by a seven-year stay abroad in Switzerland. There he was at the Zurich University Hospital for intensive care and resuscitation trained. In 1995 he moved back to his hometown Wipperfürth and worked as a senior intensive care nurse at the Herz-Jesu-Krankenhaus Lindlar . In 1999 he became a nursing directorat the Katholische Kliniken Oberberg gGmbH / Herz-Jesu-Krankenhaus Lindlar and practiced this profession for seven years. While working, he completed the nursing management course at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in Cologne and graduated with a degree in nursing.

As a part-time job, he worked for the management consultancy medico orga GmbH and supported clinics in interdisciplinary process organization. In 2006 he moved to InterComponentWare AG (ICW, software industry in health care) and worked as a medical consultant nationwide and internationally. He advised on eHealth clinics, medical practices and health insurance companies. At the ICW he was a specialist advisor on the subject of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL, age-appropriate assistance systems for a self-determined life) and gave lectures at congresses. During this time he was trained as a project manager (CAPM, Certified Associate in Project Management).

politics

Michael von Rekowski was elected Mayor of the city of Wipperfürth on August 30, 2009. He was put up for election as a candidate for mayor's office as an independent candidate. The local bodies of the SPD , UWG and Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen had agreed on this cross-party proposal. For the first time in the city's recent history, a non-party mayor is in office.

The mayor is also head of administration and represents the city council and the city externally.

In February 2020, he announced that he would no longer run as mayor in the 2020 local elections.
