Mikhail Abramovich Schambadal ( Russian Михаил Абрамович Шамбадал . Scientific transliteration Mikhail Abramovich Šambadal ; pseudonym:.. Mikhail Kamtschadal, Russian Михаил Камчадал; scientific Mikhail Kamčadal; born 6. August 1891 in Gomel , Mogilev Governorate , Belarus , Russian Empire ; d. April 27, 1964 in Moscow , Soviet Union ) was a Soviet translator from Yiddish , writer , journalist , satirist, and poet . He is famous for translating Sholem Alejchem (1859–1916) into Russian.
He is considered one of the most prominent translators of Yiddish prose into Russian . It was through him that Sholem Alejchem became popular on the theatrical stages in Russia. He also translated the novel Di mischpoche Maschber (The Maschber Family) by Der Nister (1884–1950) and songs by Perez Markisch , David Bergelson by Hirsch Smolar . He also translated from various other languages.
He published a number of articles in the Yiddish-language newspapers Ejnikajt and Der Emes .
In the editorial board of the Black Book , he worked as an editor and translator from Yiddish, he translated the contributions of Abraham Sutzkever (through the ghetto of Vilna ) and Hirsch Oscherowitsch .
