Mikhail Mikhailovich Fonin
Michail Michailowitsch Fonin ( Russian Михаил Михайлович Фонин ; * 1905 , † 1974 ) was General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Turkmen SSR from 1939 to 1947 .
Michail Fonin was born in 1905 and joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1929 . He soon rose in the party hierarchy. In 1939 he was appointed General Secretary of the Turkmen SSR and remained in this office until March 1947. As general secretary he was replaced by Shajah Batyrov . Mikhail Fonin was the last ethnic Russian in this position, after which this office was held only by Turkmen. From the 1950s he worked in the Soviet Ministry of Agriculture until the end of his life. Fonin died in 1974.
