Michail Safarbekowitsch Guzerijew ( Russian Михаил Сафарбекович Гуцериев ; born March 9, 1958 in Akmolinsk , Kazakh SSR ) is a Russian businessman and politician .

Life

Guzeriev studied at the Moscow Petroleum Institute in Moscow and at the Institute for Economics, Economics and Law in Leningrad . In 1992 he founded the Russian financial institution BIN Bank . In 1995 Guzeriev was elected to the Russian Duma and in 2000 he was re-elected as a member of the Duma. In January 2000 he was elected chairman of the Russian company NGK Slawneft OAO , and in 2002 he started the Russian company Russneft . According to the US magazine Forbes Magazine , Guzeriev is one of the richest Russians.

In July 2007, Guzeriev publicly announced that the Russian government was putting pressure on him. He announced that he would sell his Russian company Russneft to Basowy Element , which is owned by Russian entrepreneur Oleg Deripaska . This pressure was triggered by the Russian politician Murat Sjasikow , the then president of the Russian region of Ingushetia , who made higher financial demands on Guzeriev, which the latter had rejected. In August 2007, Guzeriev's son died after an unsolved attack. Guzeriev has lived in the UK since 2008. The Russian government has applied for extradition to the British government. He is married to Oksana Guzerijew and has children.
