Mikhail Vilaras

Michail Vilaras (* 1950 ) is a Greek lawyer and judge at the European Court of Justice .

Vilaras studied law at the University of Athens , where he graduated in 1973. He then worked as a lawyer in Greece. During this time he completed a foreign study in social law at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne in 1977 with the Diplôme d'études approfondies . In 1988 he took up employment with the Commission of the European Communities and became a national expert in the legal service there. In 1990 he moved to General Directorate V “Employment, Industrial Relations and Social Affairs” as the main board member. In 1990 he returned to Greece, where he worked for the Greek State Council , most recently as legal advisor. In 1998 Vilaras became a judge at the General Court of the European Union , from 2004 he was President of the Chamber there. In 2010 he resigned from the General Court of the European Union and in 2011 became a member of the Supreme Council of Administrative Judiciary; From 2013 to 2014 he was a member of the Special Court for Disputes in Connection with the Remuneration of Judges and of the Special Court for Claims relating to wrongful convictions. As a result, he was a member of various committees relating to European service law for judges. He has been a judge at the European Court of Justice since October 7, 2015 .
