Holger Balle

Holger Johannes Balle (born September 18, 1917 in Aasiaat , † April 26, 2010 in Løgumkloster ) was a Danish - Greenlandic pastor and provost .

Life

Holger Balle was the son of the Greenland-Danish provost Knud Balle (1877–1928) and his second wife, the Danish Anna Budtz Jørgensen (1878–1948). His uncle was the missionary and provost Frederik Balle (1871-1939) and his grandfather the missionary Nikolaj Edinger Balle (1839-1900).

Holger Balle studied theology at København University from 1936 to 1943 . He began to work as an ordained helper in Greenland in 1946 , but was appointed pastor the same year he served in Nuuk and later in Qaqortoq . In 1949 he became interim director of Grønland's seminarium in Nuuk. From 1955 he was Deputy Provost of Greenland, in 1957 he officially took over the office. He only stayed in Greenland for a few years, during which time he was chairman of the Greenland Information Association from 1955 to 1958 and a member of the supervisory board in Den Grønlandske Kirkesag in 1960 . In 1961 he moved to Denmark, where he was a lecturer at the Greenland Seminary in Copenhagen . On the side he was pastor until 1982 in the Sognen Nørresundby , Hvorup , Vollerslev , Gørslev , Ljørslev and Ørding . From 1962 to 1994 he was director of the Greenlandic Bible translation of the New Testament . On August 2, 2001, he received the Nersornaat in gold. He lived in a nursing home in Løgumkloster in his later years before he died in 2010 at the age of 92.
