Michel Anguier

Michel Anguier (born September 28, 1612 in Eu in the French department of Seine-Maritime in the Haute-Normandie region , † July 11, 1686 in Paris ) was a French sculptor and one of the main masters of French sculpture .

His brother François Anguier was also a sculptor .

Michel Anguier began his training with Simon Guillain in Paris. This training was followed by an almost ten-year training stay in Rome . One of his first works was the tomb of the Duke of Montmorency, created together with his brother François. In 1654 and 1655 he worked on the sculptural decoration of the room of Anna of Austria in the Louvre in Paris.

His most famous works include the relief at Porte Saint-Denis , which he began in 1674. It shows the victory of Louis XIV over Holland and the crossing of the Rhine . Another masterpiece is the depiction of the birth of Jesus in the church of Val-de-Grâce .
