Michel Benoit

Michel Benoit (born January 18, 1949 in Lyon ) is a French chess player .

Life

Benoit won the French championship in 1973 and took part with France in the 1974 Chess Olympiad , in the student team championships in 1968 and 1969 and in the Mitropa Cups in 1978 and 1981, with the best result at the Mitropa Cup in 1978 (together with Wolfram Hartmann) reached on the fourth board.

He worked for the RATP , wrote the chess columns in La Croix and VSD for years and authored several chess books. His Elo rating is 2200 (as of July 2016), the highest rating of 2290 he achieved in July 1991 and again in July 1992.
