Michel Bur

Michel Bur (born August 30, 1933 in Arc-lès-Gray ) is a French Medievalist .

biography

In 1958 he received his Agrégation , 1963–1967 he was assistant at the University of Lille III , 1967–1970 maître-assistant . In 1974 he received his doctorate as docteur ès Lettres , which he published in 1977 under the title La formation du comté de Champagne (v. 950 – v. 1150) .

Michel Bur is both a historian and an archaeologist. His area of ​​work is primarily medieval Champagne and the fortified settlements in eastern France. As an archaeologist, he directed the excavations in Vanault-le-Châtel from 1968 to 1980 , and those in the castle of Épinal from 1984 to 1992 . As a historian, he wrote a biography of Abbot Suger . He is also the editor of the documents of the Counts of Champagne, in particular those of Count Henry I. In 1983 he founded the Laboratoire d'archéologie médiévale in Nancy , which he headed until his retirement in 1999.

Michel Bur is a member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres and Professor Emeritus at the University of Nancy II .
