Michel Gugenheim
Michel Gugenheim (born 1950 in Paris ) is a French rabbi and Grand Rabbi of Paris.
Gugenheim is one of six children of the Grand Rabbi Ernest Gugenheim and Annie-Claude Dalsace. He comes from a traditional rabbi family that goes back to Samuel Sanvil Weil (1711–1754), rabbi in Alsace. He attended the Jewish high school École Yabné , where his father also taught. After completing his baccalaureate , he began studying the Talmud and studied a. a. at the yeshiva of Be'er Ja'akow . In 1977 he returned to Paris to teach the Talmud while his father was ill. After his death in March 1977 he continued his studies and graduated.
In the early 1980s he became rabbi of the Mishkenot Synagogue in Israel in the 19th arrondissement . In 1992 he became chairman of the Séminaire israélite de France . On March 28, 2012, he was appointed Grand Rabbi of Paris. After Gilles Bernheim's resignation , he was also an interim Grand Rabbi of France from April 11, 2013 to June 22, 2014.
