Michel Merlet
Michel Merlet (born May 26, 1939 in Saint-Brieuc ) is a French composer and music teacher.
Merlet attended the Conservatory of his hometown from 1952, which was under the direction of Enyss Djemil (known as Francis-Paul Demillac ). Here he received first prize in the piano category in 1956 and joined Marcelle de Lacour's harpsichord class . From 1958 he studied at the Conservatoire de Paris harmony with Jeanne Leleu , counterpoint and fugue with Yvonne Desportes , aesthetics with Marcel Beaufils , music analysis with Olivier Messiaen and composition with Tony Aubin . In 1966 he won the Grand Prix de Rome .
He then became a lecturer in improvisation and piano at the Sorbonne and in music analysis at the Institut des Jeunes Aveugles . In 1978 he became professor of fugue at the Conservatoire de Paris, and in 1989 for composition at the École Normale . From 1979 he also taught at the Académie Internationale Franco-Japonaise , he also gave seminars and lectures in Beijing, Athens and at the Juilliard School of Music in New York.
