Michel Rateau

Michel Rateau (born September 4, 1938 in Paris ) is a French composer.

Rateau attended Maurice Duruflé's preparatory class for harmony at the Conservatoire de Paris and then studied harmony with Henri Challan , counterpoint and fugue with Marcel Bitsch and composition with Tony Aubin . In 1967 he won a cantata based on the poem Voyageur, où t'en vas-tu? from Rabindranath Tagore the Grand Prix de Rome .

From 1968 to 1971 the study visit to the Villa Medici in Rome, traditionally associated with the award, followed. In the 1970s and 1980s several chamber music and orchestral works by Rateau appeared.
