Michele Abbate

Michele Abbate (* 1970 ) is an Italian classical philologist and historian of ancient philosophy .

Michele Abbate completed a degree in Classical Philology and Philosophy at the University of Pavia in 1994 with a laurea . In 2001 he was at the University of Macerata with a thesis on the ontological conception of etymology in the commentary of Proclus to Cratylus Plato doctorate. From 2001 to 2003 he was a research assistant, from 2003 to 2005 lecturer at the University of Pavia, from 2005 to 2007 Alexander von Humboldt Foundation scholarship with Michael Erler at the University of Würzburg , from 2007 to 2008 he was a member of a DFG project under management by Christoph Horn at the University of Bonn . Since 2008 he has been working at the University of Salerno .

The main research interests are Plato and Neoplatonism , especially Proclus. Further topics are the reception of Parmenides and the freedom of action and free will in Neoplatonism.
