Michele Theile (actually Michael Theile , born August 24, 1935 in Positano ) is a painter who lives and works in Positano, Italy .

Life

Michele Theile was born in Positano as the son of German parents, Ilse Bruck-Bondy (* 1897) and Harald Theile, who left National Socialist Germany as Jews and emigrated to Italy .

Basic for his artistic education were the acquaintances with painters who had left Germany between the 1930s and the beginning of the 1940s and who lived permanently in Positano. As a young man, Theile met the writer Stefan Andres , his mother typed the manuscript of the novella Wir sind Utopia . At fifteen he found his masters in the painters Karli Sohn-Rethel and Kurt Craemer . He became friends with Werner Gilles and Roberto Scielzo (1906–1973).

From 1950 he studied at the Art Academy in Bremen and also graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . In 1957 he returned to Positano, where he still works today. He went on study trips to France, Greece, England, Switzerland and Austria.

Theile mainly paints deserted landscapes and cities with the typical and well-known motifs of southern Italy. Cubic, overlapping forms, painted with a reduced color palette with fine tonal gradations and the contouring of the forms by shadow lines are the striking features of his pictures.
