The Michigan Central Railway Bridge , also known as the Whirlpool Rapids Railroad Bridge , is a former railroad bridge over the Niagara River between the cities of Niagara Falls (New York) and Niagara Falls (Ontario) . It's just south of the Whirlpool Rapids Bridge , which is older but still in use.

The double-track Michigan Central Railway Bridge, built from 1924 to 1925, replaced the Niagara Cantilever Bridge , which stood a few meters next to it and was scrapped.

The Michigan Central Railway Bridge is a three-hinged steel arch bridge with an elevated bridge deck. The entire bridge structure, including the approach bridges, is 263.1 m (863.3 ft) long. The bridge arch with a span of 195.1 m (640 ft) consists of two steel box girder ribs that are reinforced by multiple cross bars. The vertical and diagonal posts of the bridge deck are also stiffened by cross braces.

The bridge was built using cantilever. For this purpose, the outermost supports standing on the fighters were anchored back with steel rods fastened diagonally in the rock of the high bank. These back anchors were strong enough to support the arch halves until they were joined in the middle of the river.

The bridge is no longer used. The tracks on the line have been removed. Barrier walls on the bridge and barbed wire barriers prevent unauthorized crossings. It was decided to demolish and scrap the bridge, but implementation of the decision was postponed several times.
