Micranthocereus oliveirae is a species of the genus Micranthocereus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the Brazilian explorer Márcio Roberto de Oliveira. It was first described in 2015 by Pierre J. Braun .

description

Micranthocereus oliveirae grows upright between rocks, branching from the base. The shoots reach heights of up to 60 centimeters and have a diameter of up to 3.5-4 centimeters. There are 20-26 obtuse ribs . The shoots are extremely densely thorn. The areoles are each covered with 50–80 short, needle-like golden-yellow thorns. The individual thorns are up to 0.8 inches long. The lateral pseudocephalium consists of yellow bristles up to 6 centimeters long. The tubular green-yellow, lime-colored flowers are up to 3 centimeters long. The spherical, berry-shaped fruits are green, bare and up to 0.8–1 centimeters in diameter.

Systematics, distribution and endangerment

Micranthocereus oliveirae is native to the northern part of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais in a small high mountain area. The species grows at an altitude of 1200-1300 m, in very rocky Campo Cerrado. Micranthocereus oliveirae was in the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN not yet officially classified, in the first description is the species as " critically endangered (CR) ", d. H. as critically endangered. So far only a small habitat with a few individuals is known.
