The Micro Crystal AG , headquartered in Grenchen is an international Swiss manufacturer of quartz crystals and only manufacturer of watch crystals outside of Asia. The company, which was founded in 1978, is part of the Swatch Group and employs 750 people in ten countries worldwide. Micro Crystal has its origin in a division of ETA SA . Production takes place in Switzerland as well as in China and Thailand; the logistics center is in Grenchen.
The main product line of Micro Crystal are clock crystals with a frequency of 32,768 kHz . Series production of temperature-compensated clock modules started in 2013. The main customers for the oscillating crystals are manufacturers of cell phones and quartz watches . Medical applications ( defibrillators ) and implants ( pacemakers , neurostimulators ) are another market.
