Microloma tenuifolium is a species of the genus Microloma from the subfamily of the silk plant family (Asclepiadoideae).
description
Appearance and leaves
Microloma tenuifolium is a perennial , climbing plant that can be 0.5 to 1.5 m long / high. The sparsely downy hairy shoot axes have a diameter of about 1 to 2 mm. The leaves are 20 to 70 mm long and 1.5 to 6 mm wide. The petiole is quite short at 1 to 3 mm.
Inflorescence and flowers
In an inflorescence there are three to eight flowers and 2 to 3 mm long, lanceolate, pointed bracts together. The inflorescence stem is 3 to 12 mm long and the flower stalks are 4 to 12 mm long. The sepals are ascending, about half pressed against the corolla . They are yellow-green with a tinge of orange or red. The corolla is usually shiny, bright red or orange in color, e.g. T. becoming paler towards the base. The corolla is about 7 mm long and 5 to 6 mm wide in the lower part. It narrows to 2.5 to 3 mm towards the mouth. A slight constriction can often be seen shortly before the mouth. The fleshy petal lobes are 2 mm long and just as wide. They are round to heart-shaped, and concave on the inside and convex on the outside. The top is broadly rounded. The gynostegium is 4 to 4.5 mm long and has a diameter of 2 to 2.5 mm at the base. The apex is pointed. Inside, the tips near their base or approximately at the level of the apex of the gynostegium are heavily covered with downward-pointing hair.
Fruits and seeds
The single standing follicle has a length of 40 to 75 mm and a diameter of 6 to 8 mm; the maximum diameter is reached at the base, from where the diameter gradually decreases towards the tip. It contains 20 to 35 seeds.
Chromosome number
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.
distribution
Microloma tenuifolium is native to the Western Cape Province in the Republic of South Africa; it is therefore a floral element of the Capensis .
