Liu Mingkang

Liú Míngkāng ( Chinese  劉明康  /  刘明康 ) (born August 28, 1946 in Fuzhou , Fujian Province ) is the current chairman of the Chinese banking regulator, China Banking Regulatory Commission .

education

Liu Mingkang graduated from Peking University with a degree in Economics. He also earned an MBA from Cass Business School in 1987 . In 2001 he received an honorary doctorate from City University London . Liu sits on the International Advisory Board of both Peking University and Tsinghua University .

Entrepreneurial activity

From 1965 to 1974 he worked as a teacher before moving to the state-owned company Danyang Steel as a technician. In 1979, Liu joined the Nanjing Branch of the Bank of China (BOC). Since 1984, Liu has served as the deputy head of the trading division of the London branch of the Bank of China. Later, in 1987, he was promoted to general manager of the Finance Department of the Bank of China in Jiangsu Province . In 1988, Liu became deputy general manager of the Fuzhou branch of BOC, and later became chief executive officer. In 1994, Liu became vice governor of the China Development Bank . He was named chairman of the China Resources Group and China Everbright Group in 1999 . Another change came in 2000 when Liu became Chairman of the Board of Directors and President of the BOC.

Party and public office

Liu Mingkang joined the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in 1988. In 1993 he became the lieutenant governor of Fujian Province . In 1998, he was named Vice President of the People's Bank of China , the Central Bank of China . In the same year Liu joined the committee that was supposed to prepare Macau's accession to the People's Republic of China. At the same time as the office of president of the BOC, Liu also held the office of party secretary of the BOC. In 2002, he became an alternate member of the 16th CCP Central Committee . Liu was promoted to chair of the China Banking Regulatory Commission in March 2003. Since 2007, Liu has been a member of the 17th CCP Central Committee.

In addition to these activities, Liu is also a member of the Gel Policy Committee of China's Central Bank and a member of China's National Energy Commission.
