Micromus angulatus is a lacewings from the family of hemerobiidae (Hemerobiidae).

features

The brownish colored day-like reach a length of 6 to 8 millimeters. They can be distinguished from similar species such as Micromus paganus on the basis of their wing veins . Micromus angulatus has four branches from the radius , while other species have at least five.

Occurrence

Micromus angulatus is a holoarctic species. It is widespread in Europe, but rare. In North America it occurs north of the New York - North Dakota line . The species is mainly found in the boreal zone in North America .

Way of life

The insects can be found between April and October in the herb layer and in the lower bush vegetation as well as on the edge of pine forests. Imagines as well as nymphs predatorily live on aphids such as Aphis frangulae , the large rose aphid ( Macrosiphum rosae ) and the green peach aphid ( Myzus persicae ) as well as mites such as the common spider mite ( Tetranychus urticae ). Since many of these prey animals cause damage to crops, Micromus angulatus is considered a beneficial insect .
