Microsoft Identity Integration Server

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Microsoft Identity Integration Server ( MIIS ) is a metadirectory software from Microsoft .

MIIS is a central service that brings together, stores and synchronizes identity information from multiple data sources. The aim of MIIS is to manage identity information and keep it consistent.

Example: A change in a company's HR system automatically results in a change in the internal telephone directory and in the e-mail system.

Scope of services

Synchronization of identity information

With MIIS, identity information can be synchronized across different directory services and other data stores. This automates the process of updating information and ensures data [consistency].

Creation and deletion / deactivation of user accounts

With MIIS, user accounts, mailboxes, security groups etc. can be automatically created or deleted.

Password synchronization and password management

MIIS enables password synchronization and password management across different platforms. Passwords can easily be changed or reset in many systems at the same time via a web interface.

functionality

Identity Integration Feature Pack (1a) for Windows Server Active Directory can only synchronize data between Active Directory and Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM) as well as Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server and Exchange Server 2003 implementations, but this version is available free of charge from Microsoft.

Structure / terms

  • The metaverse is the database of the actual metadirectory service, all identity information is united here.
  • An external data source is a directory connected to MIIS or another data source.
  • A management agent (MA) is the connection between the external datasource and MIIS. The MA defines which fields are read out and how the data flow between MIIS and the external datasource is defined.
  • The connector space (CS) is a staging area in which data from the external data source is stored before it is projected into the metaverse.
  • Import : Get the data from the external data source into the connector space.
  • Synchronization : Unify the data from the connector spaces in the metaverse.
  • Export : write the data from the connector space to the external data sources.
  • About Rules Extensions MIIS can be adapted to the respective conditions. These extensions are programmed in the form of DLLs using Visual Studio .NET
