Midas Dekkers
Midas Dekkers (born as Wandert Dekkers ; born April 22, 1946 in Haarlem ) is a Dutch biologist , writer and journalist. He is very popular in the Netherlands through radio and television broadcasts and is one of the best known biologists in the country. As the author of several bestsellers, he is also internationally successful.
Life
Dekkers grew up in Amsterdam , where he studied biology at the university . As a student he wrote articles about animals for the NRC Handelsblad and de Volkskrant . He later worked at the Zoological Museum Amsterdam and as an editor at the publishing house Het Spectrum . From 1980 to 2007 he wrote columns for the VARA radio program Vroege Vogels (German early birds ). For VARA he worked on the television programs Midas , Found Fressen and Eerdste Druk and also for the VPRO on the children's programs “Max Laadvermogen” and “Pootjes”. He is a permanent employee of the TV magazine Nieuwslicht .
Fonts
Dekkers' around 50 works also include numerous books for children and young people. He received the Dutch children's and youth literature award Zilveren Griffel three times and the Vlag en Wimpel once .
In his popular scientific works for adults, he examines social issues in an entertaining way and often takes unusual standpoints. This includes the unbiased, addressing the issues of zoophilia in his book Beloved animal that several times in Germany launched was elected and in the Netherlands for non-fiction book of the year. His book , which is also internationally successful , is gnawing at all by the ravages of time . In Von Larva und Puppen he deals with the development and upbringing of children and takes the view that children cannot be brought up, but can only be cared for “appropriately” until puberty . In Der Gesundheitswahn he criticizes the social dominance of sport, its commercialization and the consequences of the cult of the body .
