Midem Classical Award
The MIDEM Classical Award was an international record award that was announced once a year between 2005 and 2010 by MIDEM , the largest music fair in the world, and awarded to outstanding classical music productions.
Selection and award
It was founded in 2005 as the successor to the Cannes Classical Awards and discontinued in 2010. It was awarded to CDs and DVDs of classical music that stood out for their exceptional creativity, innovation in repertoire, and outstanding artistic quality. The award ceremony took place every January on the occasion of the MIDEM (Marché international de l'édition musicale), the world's largest music fair, in Cannes in the Auditorium Debussy of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès .
jury
The award was the only independent record award for classical music, whose jury consisted primarily of international jurors from leading specialist magazines and broadcasters . Once a year, this jury selected around 20 productions, artists and the recording of the year. In 2010 more than 600 productions from 111 different record labels from 20 countries took part in the tender.
After the award was discontinued, the jury decided to continue independently from MIDEM under the name of International Classical Music Awards (ICMA).
