The Midge Lake (English for midges ) is an arcuate lake on Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . On the Byers Peninsula , it is on the northwest side of the Chester Cone .
The designation was made by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee in 1977. It is named after the midges of the species Belgica antarctica , whose imagos populate the lakeshore in the Antarctic summer months.
