Even today, the property owners' assembly fulfills the functions of municipal administration. The name Midway City was derived from its location roughly halfway between Santa Ana and Seal Beach . In 1923 a Chamber of Commerce was established. In 1935 a volunteer fire brigade was founded. Since 1935 the place has had a branch of the Los Angeles County Public Library.
Efforts have been made to incorporate Midway City into neighboring Westminster since the 1950s . Attempts that failed, mainly because of the feared water charges and property taxes.
