Migron ( Ivrit : מגרון) was an Israeli outpost (מאחז, Ma'ahaz, English outpost) in the West Bank and last had 300 inhabitants.

location

Migron was about 15 kilometers north of Jerusalem and about six kilometers north of Ramallah , Palestinian Territory . The settlement was evacuated by the Israel Defense Forces on September 2, 2012 .

history

The settlement, which belonged to the Mateh Binyamin regional administration , was built in 2001 on private land owned by Palestinians from the town of Burqa near Ramallah. Migron is mentioned in the Bible ( 1 Sam 14.2  EU ). The Israeli Ministry of Urban Development funded it with 4.3 million shekels (just under 1 million euros), while the Ministry of Defense refused to give its approval.

In 2006, the landowners and the Israeli non-governmental organization Shalom Achschaw ( Peace Now , Ivrit שלום עכשיו) brought a lawsuit before the Israeli Supreme Court , which ruled on August 2, 2011 that the settlement had been illegally built and had to be evacuated by April 2012 become. However, the government decided to give the settlers time until 2015. The court ruled again on March 25, 2012, ruling that the armed forces should vacate the settlement by August 1, 2012. This happened at the beginning of September 2012. There was little resistance.

New houses were built for the settlers in another settlement in the West Bank. The government invested the equivalent of six million euros.

According to the 2003 roadmap, some of the 200 or so Israeli settlements and outposts in the West Bank should be evacuated.
