Miguel Cardoso (poet)

Miguel Cardoso (* 1976 in Lisbon , Portugal ) is a Portuguese poet, translator and essayist who is one of the most important poets of his generation in Portugal.

Live and act

Miguel Cardoso was born in Lisbon and began studying English and Portuguese philology and modern literary studies, dropped out and studied law for one semester , which he also completed without a degree.

He is not related to the journalist and writer Miguel Esteves Cardoso .

For a while he lived in London . He lives and works in Lisbon.

Cardoso published various essays and poems in many journals, magazines and newspapers. He is a member of the Unipop artists' collective and publisher of the Impropria magazine. He translated the British poet Sean Bonney into Portuguese.

He dealt with a number of authors who accompany him again and again in his work and about whom he wrote: Arthur Rimbaud , Daniel Faria , Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen , Herberto Helder and Fernando Assis Pacheco .

What connects him with Germany is that he read at the Portuguese booth at the Leipzig Book Fair in 2017 that the title of one of his poems has a German word (La, em alemao experience) and that in 2019 he is a guest author at the Instituto Camões and the Portuguese embassy in Berlin and will write and live in Berlin because he is participating in a literary project there.
