Mihajlo Lalić , Serbian Михаило Лалић (born October 7, 1914 in Trepča , Montenegro , † December 30, 1992 in Belgrade ) was a Serbian writer from Montenegro.

Life

Lalić came from north-eastern Montenegro. He studied law. Since 1941 he was in the resistance fight. After the Second World War he exercised various cultural and political functions as a communist. For many years he was chairman of the Yugoslav Writers' Association and was a member of both the Serbian and Montenegrin Academy of Sciences , of which he was vice-president. In 1973 he won the NIN magazine's literature prize and the Njegoš prize. Lalić lived in Herceg Novi and Belgrade, where he eventually died.

Works

Lalić began to write prose after World War II, mainly dealing with the subject of partisan struggle during the war in Montenegro. Typical for him is the depiction of being rushed in combat and surviving in hopeless situations.
