Mihran Mardirossian

Mihran Mardirossian (* 1870 ; † 1936 ) was an Armenian bookseller and publicist in Constantinople (Bâb-i âli Caddesi) of the pre-republican era. He was active until the 1930s.

Mihran Mardirossian was influenced by the Young Turkish writers Abdullah Cevdet and Ishak Sükûti (1868–1903). Among other things, he published the thoughts ( Sefiller hakkinda tabiinin düsünceleri ) of the young Ahmed Halid , the founder of Ahmed Halid Kitabhane (* 1928) and the most famous bookseller of the republican period. In 1914 Mardirossian published the Resimli Kamus-i Osmanî ( illustrated Ottoman dictionary ) by Ali Seydi . Mihran Mardirossian was one of the first in Turkey to publish one of the most understandable Turkish dictionaries in the new Latin script in 1929. The author was again Ali Seydi (1870-1933).

Encouraged by his Kütübhane-i Cihan ( Eng . "World Library") he adopted the Turkish name Acun in 1934 . Cihan (Persian) and Acun (originally Sogdian ; was introduced into Turkish with the language reform ) mean world.
