Mike David Garson (born July 29, 1945 in New York City ) is an American pianist and composer , best known for his collaborations with David Bowie , St. Vincent , Nine Inch Nails , Free Flight and The Smashing Pumpkins .

Life

Garson attended Brooklyn College until 1970 and was then a member of the band Brethren with drummer Rick Marotta and Tom Cosgrove and Stu Woods. In 1972 he worked on the album I'm the One by Annette Peacock .

In 1972 he started working with David Bowie, with whom he gave over 1000 concerts and appeared on over 20 of his albums.

Mike Garson uses a Yamaha computer-controlled Disklavier on some of his own albums .

family

Garson married his wife Susan on March 24, 1968, with whom he has two daughters. He also has seven grandchildren. The family lives in Bell Canyon near Los Angeles , California , where Garson also owns his own studio.
