Young Americans is David Bowie's ninth studio album, released in 1975 , with which he claims to assert himself on the American music market. Musically, he left the rock sound of his previous albums and recorded Young Americans within a week at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia with the help of predominantly African-American soul and funk musicians and John Lennons .

Origin and style

In contrast to all of Bowie's recorded albums before and afterwards, the influence of soul and funk can be felt almost throughout the individual tracks. He himself called this style "Plastic Soul". Bowie hired various musicians from the funk and soul scene such as Luther Vandross and Andy Newmark to create an authentic sound. He also worked for the first time with Carlos Alomar , who would continue to accompany him for almost 30 years. " Across the Universe " and "Fame" were recorded at Electric Lady Studios with John Lennon . The album was very successful in the USA and reached the top ten of the charts.
