Station to Station is a studio album by David Bowie that was released in January 1976. Bowie succeeds in a mixture of American rhythms and Western European harmonies, and for this creative phase he acquires an alter ego , the Thin White Duke , a shadowy figure who returns from America to Europe to explore her roots.
Origin and style
David Bowie emphasizes in the interviews of that time that he achieved everything he wanted with the single Fame in 1975 and its number 1 placement in the US charts. Now he finally wants to do what he feels like doing. Stylistically, this statement already applies to Station to Station , where soul and funk influences from the previous Young Americans record production , but also the first acoustic references to his coming creative phase with electronic instruments, can be found.
The 6 pieces of music on station to station are laid out over a large area and contain long instrumental passages. The entire album makes use of one main characteristic of Afro-American music : it takes its time and creates vibrations through repetition. The resulting effect is that station to station addresses not only the ears but the whole body of the listener.
Others
The record covers of Station to Station is Bowie as Thomas Jerome Newton , his role in the feature film The Man Who Fell to Earth by Nicolas Roeg from the year 1975th
The song Wild Is the Wind is a cover version of the title track from the film of the same name from 1957 with Anna Magnani and Anthony Quinn in the title roles.
