Mike McNamara

Mike McNamara (born March 28, 1949 in Montreal ) is a Canadian - American ice hockey coach . He is the head of the youth department at EHC Biel .

career

McNamara was first active in North America during his playing career. Among other things, he completed 19 games for the Nordiques de Québec in the World Hockey Association . He came to Switzerland in the early 1980s, was head coach at Villars HC in the National League B in the 1981/82 season and from 1983 served as assistant coach at HC Lugano (initially in a dual role as assistant coach / player). In 1986 and 1987 he was “Co” with Lugano Swiss champions .

After a season as head coach at EHC Dübendorf , he took over the same post at Friborg-Gottéron in the National League A in 1988 . He stayed there until 1990, and in the 1990/91 season he was an assistant in the coaching staff of EV Zug .

In 1992/93 he headed the EHC Visp as head coach, in 1993/94 he was initially a coach at HC Ajoie , but in November 1993 they split up. In 1995 he went back to North America and worked as a teacher at an international school.

In 2006 he was back in Switzerland and worked in the youth department of HC Lugano, in the 2010/11 season he stepped in as an interim trainer for the NLA team, after which he was also assistant trainer in Lugano.

In November 2012 he moved to Lausanne HC , where he worked as an assistant trainer and also in youth work. In 2014, McNamara moved from Lausanne to EHC Biel and was also active in the youth sector. In mid-November 2016, after Kevin Schläpfer's dismissal, he was employed as interim trainer of the NLA team of the Zealanders. About a month later, the club announced that it would leave McNamara in office until the end of the season. He led the team into the playoffs and received a new contract in March 2017 until 2018. At the end of November 2017, he was dismissed as head coach of the EHCB after there had previously been a negative series with only one win out of four games. He stayed in Biel and a few days after his resignation as head coach, he became head of the club's youth work. For the 2018/19 season he became head of the mosquitoes stage and head of training in Biel.
