Michael Bernard "Mike" Salmon (born July 14, 1964 in Leyland , Lancashire ) is a former English football goalkeeper and football coach.

Player career

Salmon began his career as a substitute goalkeeper with the Blackburn Rovers , where he came to a single use in two years. In 1982 he was awarded by the Rovers to Chester City to gain game practice. From 1983 to 1986 he was under contract with Stockport County and played over 100 games.

After further stops at the Bolton Wanderers and the AFC Wrexham , he moved to Charlton Athletic . He stayed with Charlton for ten years and played over 150 competitive games. From 1999 to 2002 Salmon let his career end at Oxford United and Ipswich Town .

Coaching career

After the end of his career, Salom was the goalkeeping coach of the Arsenal reserve team. From 2002 to 2004 he coached the goalkeepers of Gillingham FC . He then became a full-time goalkeeping coach for the Arsenal first team.

In 2007 he emigrated to Canada with his family and has been a goalkeeping coach for the Vancouver Whitecaps ever since . After the Whitecaps moved to Major League Soccer, he was taken over into the new franchise.
