The Mikhaylov Point is a headland , the southern foothills of Visokoi Iceland in the archipelago of the South Sandwich Islands is.
Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations named it in the course of surveys carried out in 1930 as Low Point ( English for low headland ). The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee changed this mundane name in 1955. The new namesake is Pawel Nikolajewitsch Michailow (1786-1840), Russian painter and draftsman and participant in the first Russian Antarctic expedition (1819-1821) under the direction of Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen .
