Mikulin AM-39

The Mikulin AM-39 was an aircraft engine made by the Soviet designer Mikulin .

It is a 12-cylinder V-engine with water cooling. It is based on the Mikulin AM-35 , but had two compressors and a charge air cooler to increase both maximum and altitude performance.

The cylinder banks were at an angle of 60 ° to each other. The engine capacity was 45.842 liters. There were variants with different outputs - the AM-39FB developed 1800 HP, the AN-39FN-2 1850 HP, the AM-39A 1900 HP.

The basic engine received type approval in 1942 with an output of 1870 hp. The engine was used in the MiG experimental high-altitude aircraft series with the types I-220 , I-221 and I-222 .

Series production was not initiated.
