history
The mikvah in Besalú is the only Jewish ritual bath on the Iberian Peninsula. It was discovered in 1964 under rubble in the basement. A stone staircase consisting of three sections leads to the water basin fed by the Fluvià river and a thermal spring over three times twelve steps . A Romanesque vault spans the square building that was in the basement of the medieval synagogue .
