Milda Petrovna Draule

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Milda Petrovna Draule ( Russian Мильда Петровна Драуле , * August 1901 in Saint Petersburg , † March 10, 1935 in Leningrad ) was the wife of Leonid Nikolajew . He murdered the Soviet politician Sergei Kirov on December 1, 1934 .

Life

Milda's origin is controversial. According to one source, she comes from a Latvian working-class family, according to the other, she was the daughter of a land manager from the Luga district south of Saint Petersburg. Milda graduated from high school in Petersburg before the revolution .

The dark-haired, medium-sized Milda, a member of the CPSU since 1919 , married the short Leonid Nikolajew in 1925. The couple lived in a three-room apartment in house No. 9/37 on Leningrad's Batenina Street.

Milda Draule worked in the Leningrad Regional Committee of her party in Smolny . After the husband shot the 1st Secretary of the Leningrad CPSU in Smolny, Milda Draule was imprisoned and shot on March 9, 1935 on the judgment of the military tribunal at the Supreme Court of the Soviet Union . The rumor persisted that the husband had killed his rival in Kirov. Stalin, on the other hand, did not accept such a representation as an act of an individual and favored the version of a gang of conspirators, which he arranged to be eradicated.

The family was not spared the reprisals. Around the same time as Milda, her sister Olga and her husband Roman Markowitsch Kulischer were arrested, convicted and shot. Milda's two sons - Marks (born 1927) and Leonid (born 1931) - came to a children's home.

Milda was posthumously rehabilitated in 1990. The law enforcement agency found no evidence of their involvement in the Kirov killing. In 2005, the attorney general recognized Marks as a victim of political repression on his visit.
