The Miles Bay is a bay on the south coast of South Georgia . It is located on the south side of the ice fjord .
The Scottish geologist David Ferguson named the bay South Bay (English for south bay ) when he visited South Georgia from 1911 to 1912 . Since this name has long been established for the South Bay in Prince Olav Harbor , the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee decided in 1957 to rename it. The new namesake is the whaling ship Don Miles , built in 1926 , which was owned by the Compañía Argentina de Pesca company of the Norwegian whaling entrepreneur Carl Anton Larsen in 1934 .
