Miles Tails Prower

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Miles "Tails" Prower , better known by his nickname Tails ( English : 'tails'; Japanese : テ イ ル ス Teirusu ), is a two-tailed fox from the Sonic game series by Sega .

background

Apart from the antagonist Doctor Eggman, Tails is the first supporting character in the series and, according to a survey by Sega, the third most popular character. He appears in almost every Sonic game and had his own games with Tails Adventure and Tails' Skypatrol for the Sega Game Gear and Tails and the Music Maker for the Sega Pico. Tails' name "Miles Prower" is an allusion to the speed specification Miles per hour .

development

Tails was designed by Yasushi Yamaguchi for an internal Sega competition, which he also won. Yasushi originally called the character "Miles Prower", although the Sonic Team development team nicknamed him "Tails". As a result, both parties agreed to call him "Miles Tails Prower". The fox made his debut appearance in 1992 in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 , in which he was not yet playable. It was only playable in the later published 16-bit version of the same name , which is also Sega's best-selling and best-rated game. Since that game he has been Sonic's loyal companion.

description

Tails is an eight year old fox. Initially, Tails had orange fur and black eyes, but that changed with the release of Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast and PC. Tails' appearance (like many other characters at the time) was revamped by Yuji Uekawa . Since then he has had a yellow coat and light blue eyes. He appears very modest and friendly, but sometimes also comes across as naive . He has an IQ of 300 and is able to design and build machines and airplanes. However, he sometimes lacks self-confidence. His preference is peppermint. In the cartoon film Sonic OVA, Tails has a certain astraphobia (fear of lightning), but this is only applicable to the cartoon and the TV series Sonic Boom . In the Super Hard Mode of the Zone Final Fortress from Sonic Heroes, in which there is a thunderstorm, he says not to be afraid and in the game Sonic Rush Adventures for the Nintendo Ds you can see Tails together with Sonic in the first scene the game flies through a thunderstorm without showing any anxiety.

The most famous ability of Tails is his ability to fly, which he achieves by rotating his two tails. Also, unlike Sonic, he can swim and is an excellent pilot. Furthermore, just like Sonic, he can curl up into a ball and then dash away at high speed ( Spindash ). He is one of the few characters who can keep up with Sonic's high speed, and also one of the few who can transform into "super form".

cult

In addition to being a very popular character, Tails has inspired other game series and artists. Among other things, the song You Be Tails, I'll Be Sonic by the band A Day to Remember is a reference to Tails. The Pokémon Bamelin (English name Buizel), which can also fly and swim by rotating its two tails, also has considerable similarities to Tails. He is also featured in a number of internet videos and there are many fan bases of him. He has appeared in television series and shows such as Sonic the crazy hedgehog , Sonic X and in the film Sonic the Movie .
