The Milford Haven Refinery (English Milford Haven Refinery) was one of four oil refineries that arose around the Welsh town of Milford Haven . After the sale of the refinery by the operating company Murco to the Klesch Group failed in 2014, the plant was shut down and converted into a storage terminal.
history
The refinery, which went into operation in 1973, was initially operated by Amoco . The Pembroke refineries (formerly Texaco , now Valero ), Esso refinery Milford Haven (closed in 1983) and the Gulf refinery Milford Haven (closed in 1997) were in the vicinity of the site .
In 1981 the refinery was expanded and converted, which was supplemented by a catalytic cracker. In the same year, Murco took over 30% of the shares in the refinery. The French Elf Group acquired the shares in the Amoco refinery in 1990 and was taken over by Total in 2000. In December 2007 the shares of Total were taken over by Murco, so that the refinery became a 100% subsidiary of Murco.
Due to overcapacity in the European refinery market, Murco tried to sell the refinery from 2010 onwards, without success. After a deal with the Klesch Group fell through, the refinery was shut down in 2014. The Puma Energy acquired the site in 2015 to convert it into a logistics and storage terminal for fuels rebuild.
Parts of the refinery have been dismantled and are to be rebuilt in Pakistan in the future.
