Hans Georg Freiherr von der Schulenburg (born January 26, 1645 in Beetzendorf , † May 19, 1715 in Lieberose ) was a German governor in the Danish service.

Life

Schulenburg was the fourth son of the privy councilor Achaz von der Schulenburg (1610–1680) and Sophie Hedwig born. von Veltheim (1607–1667) born. The Beetzendorfer branch of his Schulenburg family was part of the ancient nobility of the Altmark . Nothing is known about his childhood and education, but he pursued a military career.

From 1675 he took part on the Danish side in the Northern War against Sweden . In 1676 he was a lieutenant colonel in the Danish army. On December 4, 1676, after the Battle of Lund , he was captured by the Swedes, but despite a lapel he had given , he was no longer able to work as a soldier for Denmark, escaped in April 1676 and rejoined the Danish army. Notwithstanding this dishonorable behavior, Schulenburg was promoted to colonel and commander of a Jutland infantry regiment . A short time later he took over command of the body regiment of the Danish Queen Charlotte Amalie . In a battle on 25/26. June 1677 he was wounded in the spine, which affected him all his life. In 1678 he took part again in the war against Sweden.

From March 28, 1697 Schulenburg was married to Renate Sophie von der Schulenburg (1675–1743), a daughter of his older sister Amalie (1643–1713) and Dietrich Hermann I von der Schulenburg (1638–1693).
