history

The South Wales Railway built a railway line to the Irish Sea. Neyland was chosen as the end point . One of the great landowners in Milford Haven, Robert Fulke Greville, disapproved. So he organized the Milford Railway. Part of the financing was the Great Western Railway . The company received on June 5, 1856 the concession to build a 6.4 km long railway line in the broad gauge of 2140 mm from Johnston to Milford Haven. The cost of construction was estimated at £ 45,000. The line was opened on September 7, 1863. In Johnston there was a transition to the South Wales Railway. The line was leased from the Great Western Railway and operated by their also leased company South Wales Railway. On August 7, 1896, the Great Western Railway took over the railway company.
