The Dolna Mitropolija Air Force Base ( Bulgarian Авиобаза Долна Митрополия ) is a Bulgarian military airfield of the Bulgarian Air Force . The 12th aviation training base, 12-ta Uchebna awiazionna basa , Учебна авиационна база (12th UAB, 12-та УАБ), is located near Dolna Mitropolija in Pleven Oblast in northern Bulgaria.
Todays use
The base has been home to a military aviation school founded in 1945 since 1948. It was named after Georgi Benkowski and was incorporated into the Veliko Tarnowo Military University as the Faculty of Aviation in 2002 .
In the run-up to the closure of the Kamenez airfield, the 12th UAB located there was relocated to Dolna Mitropolja in 2006. In 2009, all of the L-39s in the fleet were decommissioned and the first examples could not be flown again until 2013.
There is also a racing track for motorsport events on the airfield .
