Dolni Dabnik ( Bulgarian : Долни Дъбник) is a city in northwestern Bulgaria . It is located in the Pleven Oblast , 15 km west of the city of Pleven . Dolni Dabnik is the administrative center of the Dolni Dabnik municipality of the same name.
The name Dolni Dabnik literally means "the lower square with the oaks". The name of the neighboring village, Dorf Gorni Dabnik, literally means "the upper square with the oaks".

The municipality includes the places Dolni Dabnik, Gorni Dabnik, Barkach, Gradina, Kruschowiza, Petarniza and Sadowz. In 2005 the community had 15,996 inhabitants. The municipality was founded in 1979 and has an area of 310 km 2 . The partner municipality is Volgodonsk ( Russia ). Mayor of the municipality is Borislav Stanimirov.
geography
The city is located in the Bulgarian Danube Plain , 40 km south of the Danube . Dolni Dabnik is known for its oil fields, of which there are very few in Bulgaria.
history
The place was first mentioned in official Ottoman documents in 1430. Since 2010, the city has given its name to Dabnik Peak in Graham Land in Antarctica.
economy
The population lives from agriculture and from oil production and processing. The largest local company is called "Neft i gas" (Bulgarian Нефт и газ; in German: Erdöl und Gas). The "Plama-Pleven" oil processing plant is 6 km away and the Dolna Mitropoliya military airfield is 8 km away .
Attractions
Worth seeing in Dolni Dabnik are the church "Sweti Prorok Ilija" (Holy Prophet Elijah ) and the Lavrov park (laurel park ), which is located near the city and which depicts the fallen Russian soldiers of the Russo-Ottoman War (1877–1878) and the Battle of Dedicated to Pleven .
