The 23rd Baza Lotnictwa Taktycznego (23rd Tactical Air Base) is a military airfield of the Polish Air Force ( Siły Powietrzne Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej ). The base is in the Masovian Voivodeship in the Miński powiat about six kilometers east of the center of Mińsk Mazowiecki . It is based on MiG-29 - interceptors .
history
The long-term user during the Cold War between 1956 and 1971 was the 1st combat aircraft regiment, 1 Pułk Lotnictwa Myśliwsko-Bombowego "Warszawa", which was initially equipped with the MiG-15 and from 1963 with the MiG-21 . The conversion to the MiG-29A / UB , which is still flown today, took place in 1989. The regiment was reorganized into the 23rd Baza Lotnicza (23rd air base) at the beginning of 2001 as part of a reorganization prior to Poland's entry into NATO and in 2010 it became the 23rd Baza Lotnictwa Taktycznego renamed.
Todays use
The base currently houses (2019):
- 1st Eskadra Lotnictwa Taktycznego (1st elt), tactical squadron, equipped with MiG-29A / UB fighters. She reports to the flying group of the 23rd base, which also includes a technical and a support group. The 23rd base is subordinate to the 1st Tactical Air Wing in Świdwin.
- 2. Grupa Poszukiwawczo-Ratownicza (2.gpr), PZL W-3 Sokół , a group of Combat Search and Rescue helicopters. She is subordinate to the 3rd Air Transport Squadron in Powidz.
There are also non-flying formations.
